BIOGRAPHY

"To send light into the darkness of men's hearts - such is the duty of the artist."
                                                      Robert Schumann

The Hungarian baritone, Gabor Kabok is a professional singer and singing teacher, who began his professional vocal education at the age of 18 at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Hungary, where he fell in love with the colourful variety and possibilities of the human voice. Meanwhile, fascinated by German culture and language, he studied German linguistics and literature at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Hungary and was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in German Philology. As a singer, he attended masterclasses given by such artists as Prof. Vittorio Terranova, Lajos Miller and Jelinek Gábor.

After finishing his studies at the conservatory, he decided to become a professional singer. In 2011 he therefore enrolled at the Zurich University of the Arts, where he studied singing under Prof. Scot Weir and the piano as a minor subject under Martin Wettstein. He also studied song interpretation under Prof. Daniel Fueter and Hans Adolfsen and completed courses in opera interpretation under Krishan Krone and Olaf Storbeck. During his Master Pedagogy studies whilst still in Zurich, he broadened his musical horizons and teaching methods by attending a variety of courses such as Complete Vocal Technique by the authorised CVT Teacher Prof. Martina Bovet and the Pop, Rock, Blues & Jazz workshop on music teaching methodology given by Sebastian Piekarek. Thus, despite being primarily a classical singing teacher, he was also able to give his pupils professional voice training in a range of popular music styles.

In 2016 Mr Kabok graduated in Zurich with a Master of Arts Degree with honours in Vocal Pedagogy and is currently employed as a singing teacher in Switzerland in Zurich, Winterthur and Suhr. Mr Kabok can be heard as a soloist and chorister on different religious and secular occasions throughout Switzerland.

One of his latest stage performances was the role of the Minskman in Jonathan Dove’s opera Flight in 2017, conducted by Andrew Dunscombe and directed by Christian Kipper. His performances in the Theatre of Sursse, Baden and in the Scala Basel were also highly successful. In 2016, Mr. Kabok played the leading role of don Parmenione in Rossini’s Opera L’occasione fa il ladro conducted by Florian Pestell and directed by Christian Kipper in the Theatre of Langenthal. He performed in Winter 2017 Franz Schubert’s beautiful song cycle the Winter Journey ("Winterreise") with pianist and composer Bryan Grob.
