I start by establishing a dynamic teacher-learner relationship because I believe that this is the basis of successful teaching. I approach teaching as a dialogue between the teacher and the learner and help my pupils discover and develop their talent.
I look for, accept and work on what is already there. My experience has shown me that everyone has some singing practice. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced singer, I’ll always discover something unique and special about how you sound, often in the very first lesson. Finding and accentuating these factors over and over again is the key to successful cooperation in all teaching situations.
Everyone has so-called connection points. I call them small “buds of knowledge” that are waiting for a good teacher to make them flourish. We teachers need to be receptive and flexible enough to combine our professional skills with our pupils’ abilities. And to do this we need to produce an individualized teaching situation for our pupils, so we can help each one develop into a self-reliant musician.
This is why I prefer a learner-centred teaching that encourages you to reflect on what you are learning and how you are learning it.
